Major General D. Scott McKean
Commanding General

Major General McKean was commissioned as an Armor Officer in 1990 from the United States Military Academy at West Point. His military education includes the Armor Officer’s Basic Course, Armor Officer Advanced Course, Command and General Staff College and the United States Naval War College.

Major General McKean’s previous assignments include Tank Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer in the 3rd Battalion, 73rd Armor Regiment and Operations Officer for the XVIII Airborne Corps Long Range Surveillance Company at Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Assistant G3 Training Officer for the 2nd Infantry Division at Camp Red Cloud, Korea; Tank Company Commander and Headquarters Company Commander in the 4th Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment at Fort Stewart, Georgia; and Doctrine Writer at the U.S. Army Armor Center at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Major General McKean served as the Operations Officer and Executive Officer for the 1st Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, during the Battalion's deployment to Iraq as part of OIF I. Later, he assumed duty as the Deputy G3, 4th Infantry Division and deployed to Baghdad in support of OIF 05-07. Major General McKean went on to command the 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, the "Oldest Tank Battalion", and deployed back to Baghdad for OIF 08-09. He deployed to Iraq again as the Commander, 4th Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division in 2011 as part of Operation New Dawn.

Following Brigade Command Major General McKean served as the Executive Officer to the Commanding General, United Nations Command / Combined Forces Command / U.S. Forces Korea. MG McKean went on to serve as the Deputy Commanding General (Operations), 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss, Texas, and then as the 49th Chief of Armor, Fort Benning, GA. In his most recent assignment, Major General McKean was the Chief of the Office of Security Cooperation - Iraq.

Major General McKean’s awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Bronze Star Medal (with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters), Meritorious Service Medal (with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal (with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal (with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Combat Action Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Ranger Tab and Sapper Tab.

Major General McKean and his wife have been married for over 24 years have one daughter and one son.

Major General Scott McKean assumed command of the 2nd Infantry Division / Combined ROK/U.S. Division on 18 July 2017.
