Mission
Division Special Troops Battalion provides combat support and combat service support to, and conducts survivability operations support of, the 2d ID Command Posts during armistice, contingency, and combat operations to sustain division command post operations and provides tactical information network support to 2d ID to enable division command and control.
History
The Division Special Troops Battalion was constituted on 22 June 2005 in the Regular Army as the 2d Infantry Division Special Troops Battalion, assigned to the 2d Infantry Division, and activated in the Republic of Korea. The Division Special Troops Battalion was constituted from elements of the 102d Military Intelligence Battalion and the 122d Signal Battalion. The Division Special Troops Battalion is an integral member of the 2d Infantry Division. The 2d Infantry Division has a long and proud history. The 2d Infantry Division was formed during World War I. The Division fought gallantly in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and continues in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The 102d Military Intelligence Battalion was constituted on 16 September 1981 in the Regular Army as the 102d Military Intelligence Battalion, assigned to the 2d Infantry Division, and activated in Korea . The 102d Military Intelligence Battalion was constituted from the 329th Army Security Agency Company (Annex 1) and the 2d Military Intelligence Company (Annex 2) concurrently reorganized and redesignated as Companies A and B. Annex 1 was originally constituted on 23 October 1943 as the 3106th Signal Service Platoon and activated 1 November 1943 at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. Annex 2 was originally constituted on 12 July 1944 as the 2d Counter Intelligence Corps Detachment and activated on 6 August 1944 in France and attached to the 2d Infantry Division. The 102d Military Intelligence Battalion was deactivated on 22 June 2005.
The 122d Signal Battalion was constituted 1 July 1916 in the Regular Army as a Signal Corps battalion. Organized 10 October 1916 at Fort Bliss, Texas, as the 1st Field Battalion, Signal Corps, to consist of the following companies: Company A originally organized on 28 May 1899 in the Philippine Islands as Company E, Signal Corps and later redesignated as Field Company E, Signal Corps on 5 April 1910; Company B originally organized on 1 July 1904 at Benecia Barracks, California, as Company I, Signal Corps and later redesignated as Field Company I, Signal Corps on 5 April 1910 ; and Company C organized in May 1917 at Fort Bliss, Texas. The Battalion was reorganized and redesignated on 3 August 1917 as the 1st Field Signal Battalion and assigned on 21 September 1917 to the 2d Infantry Division. Following World War I, the Battalion reorganized and redesignated as the 2d Signal Company on 23 April 1921. Finally reorganized and redesignated on 20 June 1957 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 122d Signal Battalion (organic elements constituted 24 May 1957 and activated 20 June 1957 in Alaska). The 122d Signal Battalion was deactivated on 22 June 2005.
