Brigadier General Kim, Yong Chul

Brigadier General Kim, Yong Chul graduated from Chungang University and was commissioned as an Infantry Officer in 1986. His professional military education includes the Infantry Basic Officer’s Course, Officer’s Advanced Course, Joint Forces Staff College in Virginia, U.S.A., Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies, and ROK Army College. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Cinema from Chungang University and Masters in Military Strategy from Hannam University.

Brigadier General Kim’s initial assignment was in the ROK 1st Special Forces Brigade, where he served as a Deputy Company Commander in 2nd Battalion from 1986 to 1988. He served as 506 Battalion operations officer in US 2nd Infantry Division in 1989, and upon completion of OAC in 1991, he took command in Company in 37th Regiment of ROK 12th Division. After finishing command, he went into ROK Army College and prepared for his deployment to the United States. He was then deployed to USA to attend Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk.

After his return, Brigadier General Kim served as a Military Policy & Strategy Instructor in ROK Army College, and upon his promotion to Lieutenant Colonel once again went to USA and served as an Alliance Coordination Officer in US Central Command Tampa, Florida. He then returned to ROK to take command of 2d Battalion of ROK 8th Division, and as a Lieutenant Colonel Promotable, achieved his certificate in US Asia-Pacific Center for Security Study in Hawaii.

After his promotion, he served as a Commander of ROK 36th Regiment of 5th Infantry Division. He then became the Chief of Staff of the Division. Since then He executed various missions to include G3 of 6th Corps and Deputy C3 of GCC in CFC, and upon his promotion to Brigadier General he took command in ROK 9th Special Forces Brigade, and served as the Chief of Mobilization of First ROK Army.

Currently Brigadier General Kim is serving as the Deputy Commanding General – ROK of the 2nd Infantry Division / ROK-US Combined Division. He is married and has two children.
