Major General Steve Gilland
Commanding General

Major General Steve Gilland was commissioned from the United States Military Academy in 1990. As an Infantry officer, Major General Gilland served in a variety of tactical assignments in Air Assault, Armor, Mechanized Infantry, Ranger and Special Operations units. He has served in the 24th Infantry Division (Mechanized), 2nd Infantry Division (Mechanized), 75th Ranger Regiment, United States Army Special Operations Command, the 1st Cavalry Division, the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and the United States Military Academy (USMA).

Major General Gilland has commanded at multiple levels throughout his career. He has participated in numerous operational deployments to the Middle East, Africa and Afghanistan. Major General Gilland holds a master's degree in Military Operational Art and Science from the Air Force Command and Staff College. Prior to his arrival to the 2nd Infantry Division/ROK-U.S. Combined Division, Major General Gilland served as the Commandant of Cadets at USMA.

Major General Gilland’s awards include The Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, 2OLC; Bronze Star Medal, 3OLC; Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal, 1OLC; Army Commendation Medal, 5OLC; and the Army Commendation Medal with V Device. MG Gilland has earned the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Ranger Tab, Master Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and the Military Free Fall Jumpmaster Badge.

Major General Gilland is married with three children.
